Semester 1 Media Culture & Practice 1  The Politics of Representation (CLLC11120)
 
Location: Room M1, Appleton Tower  
                             
 Time:  2-4pm  Wednesday 
 

This course will introduce students to the different manners in which media,
culture and practice have been theorised.  Seminars (which will run for 2
hours a week) will be taught by experts from the University and beyond, and
will draw on a wide range of material from the University Library and video
collections.  Assessment will be based on a course essay of 4000 words,
selected from a range of prescribed topics, to be submitted by the end of
Semester 1.  Students will maintain and contribute to an online blog and
media salon, undertaking media practice based exercises on a weekly basis.

Semester 2 Media, Culture & Practice 2  Critical Media Practices (CLLC11124)

Location: Room M1, Appleton Tower

Time: 2-4pm Wednesday

This course will provide students with an understanding of the key
theoretical approaches to critical media practice and its relationship to
diverse cultural contexts.  Seminars (which will run for 2 hours a
week) will be taught by the course leader and experts drawn from both
within and out with the University.    Assessment will be based on an
essay of 4000 words, selected from a range of prescribed topics, to be
submitted by the end of Semester 2. Students will maintain and contribute to
an online blog and media salon, undertaking media practice based exercises
on a weekly basis.
