Artists’ books in ECA Library

ECA Library recently hosted a visit of a group of Friends of the University Library, to tour the Library at Evolution House and to see a selection of artists’ books from our collection.

Making the selection to show the visitors reminded me that we hold several books by ECA graduate artist and bibliophile Rebecca Fraser. One of Rebecca’s projects – Helluo Librorum – was held inside ECA Library, and involved wrapping a bay of books in semi-transparent paper, which created a ghostly and mournful effect. Rebecca Fraser Helluo Librorum

Helluo Librorum means Glutton for Books, which is certainly one way of describing many of the staff and students who work in our library!

Rebecca also made several artists’ books after visiting various different European academic libraries including the University Main Library at George Square, which you can see at http://www.rebeccafraser.info/index.php/research

If you are interested in joining the Friends of the University Library take a look at their website at http://friendsofeul.wordpress.com/ or pick up a copy of their magazine The Piper at ECA Library.
